Last weekend’s Masters Championship was a great success for the SJ Track Club. We had rave reviews from all competitors, competitive success for all our club participants and a fun time for all including the volunteers. Masters athletes (aged 30 to 92) from across Canada, the USA and beyond will be competing for two days at the stadium. This is the first national Track & Field event hosted in SJ for more than decade. We encourage all our athletes to put on a club T-Shirt and come out to the stadium to check on the action. Over 200 athletes from across Atlantic Canada competed in the full day event. Over 150 athletes from across New Brunswick competed in the full day event. Leading the club results were double winners were Katie Robinson in the Girls 12-13 100m & 400m and Alex Alston in the Boys 11 & under 100m & Long Jump. As well Rachelle McDonald, Hilary Tomney, Chelsea Britt, Casey Currie and Julia Loparco were single event winners for girls. For the boys, Barry Britt continued his winning ways in the 1500 along with other wins by brothers, Todd and Trevor Floyd in the 100m sprint. There were numerous other event winners and top three finishes. See below. Results from this meet and other selection meets will be reviewed in the coming days to select the final NB team for the 14-15 and 16-17 age groups. 36 athletes will be selected to represent the province at this national meet, which New Brunswick is hosting later this summer in Oromocto. The Royal Canadian Legion has supported this national track and field program for over 30 years and this will be the third time it has been hosted in NB. Jul 13 2007 - 3 SJ Athletes qualify for North American Finals Following last Sunday’s Hershey Atlantic finals, Hershey respresentatives reviewed all the results and selected 8 NB’ers to attend the North American Final. Three athletes from the SJ area will represent the Atlantic Provinces in Hershey Pennsylvania from August 2nd to the 5th. These young athletes are: Shaelyn Clark from Quispamsis who will compete in the girls 9-10 4x100m relay. Nick MacMackin from Quispamsis who will run the boys 11-12 800m. Katie Robinson of Saint John who qualified in the 400m dash. Congratulations to those athletes, and good luck in the North American finals! Hershey Foods Corporation covers all expenses associated with this trip. The Hershey Youth Program has been a national event in the U.S.A. for the past 30 years. Initiated as a playground track & field meet in 1975 in Charleston, W.Va., the program has become the largest youth sports program of it's kind in North America. The program was offered on a statewide level in West Virginia in 1976, became a 10-state regional event in 1997, and was offered nationally in 1978. Saint John area youth had a strong showing at the recent Hershey Track & Field Atlantic Finals held in Dieppe. With 150 athletes from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island competing, six local athletes brought home gold medals.
· Danielle French won the girls 9-10 50m
· Katie Robinson won both the 100m and 400m in the 11-12 age group.
· Geoff Wilson (13-14) 100m and 200m
· Nick MacMackin (11-12) 400m and 800m.
· Alec Alston won the 100m in the 9-10 division
· William Bower the 400m in the 9-10 division

9-10 Girls:
Shae Clark – 3rd 100m
Brenna Kettlewell – 2nd 100m , 3rd 50m & Long Jump
MeiLing McCleave – 3rd Ball throw

Check out the full results & see some great pictures. Jul 8 2007 - Olympic Legend Bruny Surin Olympic Legend Bruny Surin Attends Hershey Atlantic Final in Dieppe. Shown here with SJTC Club members
Olympic 4x100m relay gold medalist Bruny Surin was on hand as a Canadian Legend in conjunction with the 30th anniversary of the Hershey Track and Field Games. Surin attended the Atlantic Hershey Track and Field Games events this weekend and was on hand to sign autographs and meet with the track athletes from across Atlantic Canada. For those who can't remember the gold medal race in Atlanta you might want to check out this video clip. 4x100 video clip Later this summer Bruny will also attend the 30th Hershey Track and Field Games North American Final on August 4th in Hershey, Pennsylvania where he will join American Legends Michael Johnson, Carl Lewis, Bruce Jenner and Rafer Johnson. Jul 7 2007 - Aileen Meagher International Track Classic: Halifax
Congratulations to Club Member Barry Britt who established a new 3000m Juvenile outdoor record at the Aileen Meagher Track Classic. Britt ran a time of 8:36:05 breaking the previous record of 8:40.57 held by Joël Bourgeois since August 1988. This meet is part of the Eastern Canadian High Performance Athletics Series and features some of the top athletes from Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic region. A number of other Saint John Track Club athletes attended including Chelsea Britt who competed in the 100m & 200m, Jessica Belliveau in the 800m, Todd Floyd in the 100m and Jordan Jamison in the 400m. Silver Medalist & Personal Bests - Junior Nationals 2007
Barry Britt broke out on the national stage again this past weekend with a silver medal in the 5000m at the Junior Nationals in Abbotsford, B.C. His time of 15:03.86 beat his previous personal best by 17 seconds. As well, Todd Floyd competed in the 100m with a personal best of 11.77. Congratulations to both of you and the best of luck at Legion Nationals.
