Aug 14 2007 - 2007 Legion National Championships
The 2007 Legion National Championships wrapped up this weekend and athletes, coaches and chaperones are on their way home. Judging by the number of new records, as well as season and personal bests, the meet was a huge success. 172 athletes out of the 323 athletes who competed out-performed their seed time in at least one event. In addition, there were 9 potential new records set.
Adam Gaudes won a silver medal in the Men's 15 and Under 400m event with his personal best performance of 52.56s. Also winning a silver medal was Geneviève Lalonde in the 17 and Under 3000m event. Bronze medals were earned by Barry Britt in the Men's 17 and Under 3000m event, Lydia Frost in the 17 and Under 800m and the New Brunswick men's 17 and Under 4x100 relay team consisting of Jason Bouchard, Todd Floyd, Grégoire Arsenault and David Wang.
A new provincial record was established by Alexandre Doucet in the Midget Men's 100m Hurdles. Alexandre ran 16.03s in the prelimary round of the event.
Finishing with 4th place finishes were: Stéphanie Doiron and Samantha Macdonald who tied in the Womens 15 and Under High Jump; Geneviève Lalonde in the Women's 17 and Under 1500m; Sarah MacPherson in the 17 and Under 3000m event; and the Men's 15 and Under relay teams in both the 1600m Sprint Medley and the 4x100 Relay.
The most impressive part of the New Brunswick teams performance was the number of athletes who ran, jumped and threw beyond their previous personal bests. In all, 31 of the 40 NB athletes had at least one personal best. Although it's not possible to acknowledge all these individual performances, one that respresents the determination showed by all the NB athletes is Sarah Myatt's 50 second improvement on the 3000m event.
