Jul 15 2009 - Six Saint John Athletes on Provincial Legion Track & Field Team Six athletes from the Saint John Track Club have been named to the New Brunswick Legion Track and Field team: Grace Annear - Hampton Shannon Morris - Saint John Nick MacMackin - Quispamsis Mitch Quigg - Saint John Matt McNeil - Saint John Ried Burrows - Grand Bay The 36 member team of 13 to 17 year olds will be competing at the 2009 Royal Canadian Legion Track and Field National Championships in Sherbrooke, Quebec in August. This will be the second time attending for Grace Annear, while the other five local athletes are looking forward to their first national experience and ready to take on the country. The nationally sanctioned event is now divided into two sections - a two-day meet and a two-day clinic for the athletes. These events are attended by more than 330 athletes, 25 coaches and 35 chaperons. Started by the Royal Canadian Legion in the 1970’s it has become a national track and field program and an annual event funded by the Legion. Jul 14 2009 - NB Outdoor Track Championships – Oromocto - July 11, 2009 Almost 170 athletes gathered for Athletics New Brunswick’s NB Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Oromocto this past weekend. Members of the Saint John Track club had a strong showing with 20 1st place finishes, 30 2nd places and 19 3rd places. The club had the following winners of their individual events. Jul 7 2009 - Athletes Have Strong Showing At Atlantic Hershey Meet: July 5, Dieppe, N.B. Nearly 200 of the best young track athletes from across the Maritimes competed in the July 5th Hershey Atlantic Final at the Anna Malenfant Track in Dieppe. The meet, organized by Athletics NB, featured exciting races and field events for youth aged 9-14. Leading the results for the Saint John Track Club was Anthony Cormier who placed 1st in the Boys 11-12 100m, 200m, tied for 2nd in the standing long jump and was a member of a winning 4x100m relay team. Also placing first in their events were Simran Sardana in the 9-10 boys Ball Throw, Victoria Leblanc in the 11-12 Girls Standing Long Jump and Nick MacMackin in the boys 13-14 800m. Athletes placing in 2nd or 3rd included Emilee Hoellwarth 2nd in the 9-10 girls 200m, Cole Healey 2nd in the 9-10 boys 200m, Alec Alston 2nd in the 11-12 boys 100m & Standing Long Jump, Ben Fowler 2nd in the 13-14 boys Standing Long Jump, Pierre Dumouchel 3rd in the 13-14 boys 800m and Emily Carr 3rd in the 13-14 girls Standing Long Jump. Two Saint John Track Club Relay teams placed in the top three… 11-12 boys – 3rd place – Dallas Casey, Daniel Johnston, Justin Leblanc, Nick Duffy 13-14 boys – 2nd place – Zach Peabody, Ryan White, Matt Sullivan, Ben Fowler The top athlete in each of the events from this meet will have their performances submitted to Hershey. Officials for the North American Final will compare times for top finishers at the Atlantic event to the results from other Region 6 championships held in Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Newfoundland, Rhode Island and Vermont to select athletes to attend the North American Final to be held in Hershey, Pennsylvania in early August. |

Eleven NB athletes have qualified to compete in the 2009 Hershey North American Track & Field Championships in Hershey, PA on August 1st, including three from the Saint John Track Club.

With a javelin toss of 65m10 Caleb Jones of Saint John is the New Canadian Junior Champion. Caleb's throw was more then 7m better then the 2nd place finnisher.Caleb competes for Saint John Track Club and is coached by John Corazza.
Barry Britt from Hampton ran 14:58.44 in the 5000m to finish 2nd. Barry is also part of Saint John Track Club and is Coached by Joel Bourgeois. Both will be competing at the Canada Games next month.
MItch Quigg competed to a seventh place in the decathlon. This was Mitch's first decathlon and his first time at a national championhips. It was an outstanding result.
Also competing in their first national junior championships were Michael Campbell, Grace Annear and Matt McNeil. Congratulations to all of them.
