It is being held at the Canada Games Stadium. This is an exciting event for the City of Saint John so we encourage our members to attend and watch the action.

Jun 29 2010 - Canadian Junior Champs - Moncton 2010

This weekend (July 2-4) in Moncton will be the Canadian Juniors which is also the selection meet for the Canadian team at worlds. Competing from SJTC will be the following...   Caleb Jones - Javelin - Friday & Saturday Mitch Quigg - Javelin - Friday & Saturday Matt McNeill - 1500m - Friday Tom Butler - 800m - Saturday Alex Peabody - 100m - Friday   This will be the first event held in the new Moncton Stadium. There will be some exciting performances by some of the country's rising stars in Track & Field.   If you are interested in more information see the link below. HI everyone,

It was better being careful today to cancel track practice as thunder was forecasted:) It was great to see everyone do so well at NB Hershey and Legions!! I am really looking forward to seeing everyone at Atlantic Hershey and NB Outdoors. This weekend will be a great experience for our athletes at the Canadian Juniors!!

Here is the scoop on the track camp for children 7-12:)

• When: July 13 and July 15, 2010, drop off at 8 to 8:30am, pickup at 4:30 to 5 pm
• Ages: 7-12 years of age
• Where: Lily Lake Pavillion

Thursday

Camp Program Goals:
The objective of this camp is to provide a fun two days of track & field skill building and other fitness activities. The kids will be kept very busy with the program plan with the goal of promoting active lifestyle and fitness. Campers will have an opportunity to be introduced to track & field events plus a variety of other outdoor games, swimming, hiking and other activities.

How will be travel between locations?
The campers will be walking to and from various locations in Rockwood Park. Your child will have to do lots of walking every day and must be physically willing and able to do this.

Where will I drop off and pick up my child?
Pick up and drop off will be at the Lily Lake Pavillion.

What if it rains?
The camp will occur rain or shine.

What to bring:
• Knapsack
• Sunscreen
• Running shoes, shorts, sweat pants and jacket
• Rain jacket
• Lost of snacks and water/juice
• Swim suit & Towel

Important Information About Registration:
The camp fee includes all activity fees, some snacks and instruction.
Camp numbers are limited and it is advisable to register early.
Please submit the completed registration form together with cheques payable to the Saint John Track Club to the Alex Coffin’s Fitness Shop or at any practice session of the Saint John Track Club.

Pro Tip: If you haven't gotten a Personal Best yet this summer, now is the time to strategize!! or pick a new event:)

Jun 26 2010 - Strong Showing At Provincial Legion Meet:

Over 160 youth from across New Brunswick competed in the June 26th Royal Canadian Legion Provincials in Miramichi.
Saint John tc athletes faired with 12 first place finishes and 25 top 3 finishes in total. A number of SJ Track club athletes came away with new provincial records including; Josh Shanks who set a new record of 6.20.20 in the 2000m, Reid Burrows in the 200m Hurdles with a time of 30.50, and Nick MacMackin in the 1200m with a time of 3.19.30

Results from the last week: SJTC athletes have been busy across the province and the country.

Edmonton International Track Classic– Caleb Jones threw a personal best of 69.68m to come 2nd at this high caliber meet in western Canada. This throw puts Caleb at the top of the Canadian Junior Rankings.

National Multi Events Team Qualifier– Mitch Quigg competed in Toronto at this exciting event where the members of the team for this year’s world juniors were selected. Mitch had some outstanding performances with 5 personal bests on day 2. He placed 6th overall and was the top Atlantic Canadian with 5683 points.

NB Middle School Champs– 25 SJTC athletes battle high winds to compete at this annual event. Congratulations to the following people for coming top 3 in their events.

Cameron Dick – 3rd 1200m

Danielle Dumouchel – 3rd 1200m, 2nd in 800m

Grade 7’s

Riley Quigg – 1st Shot put, 3rd 80m

Anthony Cornier – 1st Long Jump, 1st 150m, 2nd 80m

Paul Tremblay – 3rd 800m, 3rd 200m

Ben Fowler – 1st in High Jump, 2nd in Long Jump

Pierre Dumouchel – 1st in 1200m, 2nd in 800m

Emily Carr – 1st long jump, 2nd 100, 2nd 200

Catch the Bug Road Race– Congratulations to Coach Alex Coffin for his outstanding win in this local 10km in a time of 33.15. One of our top youth athletes, Matt McNeil had an outstanding result with a fast time of 34.34 in his first race over this distance. Dean Strowbridge and Andrew Vail also had strong performances on what is known to be a challenging course. In the 5 km distance club members, Dallas Casey, Victoria Leblanc and Cole Healey also competed.

Jun 19 2010 - Hershey Provincial Champs

Provincial Hershey Track Meet Gets Record Attendance

Over 370 youth from across New Brunswick competed in the June 19th Hershey Provincial Final in Oromocto. The meet organized by Athletics NB had record attendance and featured exciting races in all age groups. 

Saint Johnarea athletes faired well with the following athletes getting first place finishes in their events. In total, 25 Greater Saint John athletes placed in the top six allowing them to advance to the Hershey Atlantic Final in July. Laura Duffley, Cole Healey, Isaac Clark and Sarah Kean each won two events at the meet.

Saint John area athletes winning their events were:

Laura Duffley – 1st place 50m & 100m (9-10 girls)

Ashley Cormier – 1st place Softball Throw – (9-10 girls)

Cole Healey – 1st place 200m, 400m (9-10 boys)

Isaac Clark – 1st place 100m & 200m (11-12 boys)

Sarah Kean – 1st place 200m & 800m (11-12 girls)

Josh Shanks – 1st place 1600m (13-14 boys)

Hi everyone,

Hopefully everyone who is competing at Hersheys this Saturday in Oromocto has already registered. If you haven't and you are between the ages of 9 and 14, be sure to message Dave at anb@nbnet.nb.ca to see if you can still register. The meet starts at 1pm on Saturday.

Congratulations to everyone who competed in the hurricane at Middle School Provincials:) Sorry to anyone who attended the Gondola Point practice that night as we tried to communicate that the practice was cancelled.

For kids staying in the SJ area on Sunday, the Do It for Dad 5K is a great event!!

Don't forget to let Bill know if you are planning to attend the Legion Provincials in the Miramichi the last weekend of June.

Pro Tip of the Week: Be ready for a change of pace if you are running a distance race. A lot of races over 400 meters involve pace play and this can affect your performance if you haven't mentally rehearsed all possible scenarios beforehand. Being mentally ready is half the battle and can give you a huge advantage over your competition:) If you want to be aggressive, make sure you have a plan!

Jun 11 2010 - Saint John Local Hershey Meet

Hello everyone   Congratulations to everyone who competed last night at the local Hershey Meet. Please note that the results have also been posted to the ANB web site. RESULTS   Any athlete who came top 5 in an event last night can advance to the provincial champs on June 19th in Oromocto. PLEASE NOTE: that any athletes from our meet who are younger than 9 (born 2001) can not compete at provincials even though we let them do so in our local meet. We encourage all our athletes to attend thius event as it is a large and exciting track meet, plus every participant receives a free Hershey T shirt.   The link below will take you to a registration form for the event. Invitation to attend the Youth Athletics camp in conjunction with the IAAF World Junior Track and Field championships (message Dave by this Wednesday!!)

Athletics New Brunswick is pleased to announce at least 22 positions for Athletics NB members of clubs who are ages 11to 14 this year are opened to young athletes to attend the Athletics Youth Camp that is being held in conjunction with the World Track and Field championships from July 19th until July 24th.
During the six day camp the participant will take in the opening ceremonies and will attend all evening sessions of the competition during the championships. During the mornings the young athletes will be receiving athletics training from some of the top Junior Development Coaches from across Canada. All participants will have the opportunity to try out all the events involved in the World championships, meet the Canadian Team, meet with the IAAF ambassadors of the sport including many Olympic medalists and attend the New Brunswick day barbeque hosted by the Premier.
The cost of this camp to each participant is $350.00. This cost includes meals and accommodations in Memramcook, tickets to the championship event each day, tickets to the various sporting attractions on the schedule, and transportation each day back and forward to the hostel in Memramcook.

Young athletes who would like to be considered for these 22 positions are asked to fill out the attached application form and hand it in to your club by June 7th.
It is expected that the successful applicants will be notified by June 15th.

Saint John Track does incredible at HIgh School Provincials

In VERY wet conditions, over 400 athletes competed at the 2010 NBIAA Track and Field Championships. Unfortunately, some events had to be canceled due to safety reasons.  

Despite the bad weather many athletes achieved personal best and some even broke NBIAA records.

-With a toss of 40.89 Lindsay Gauvin (ESN) establishes a new record in the senior girls Javelin. She also finished 2ndin the senior girls 200m.

-With a run of 49.04 Adam Gaudes (FHS) broke his own senior boys 400m record.

Other notable results include :

-Sarah Taplin (MHS) won the junior girls long jump and the 100m dash.

-Amy Lynn Grant (ESN) was 1stin the junior girls 200m dash and 2ndin the 100m

-Kate Robinson (SJHS) was 1stin the junior girls 1500m and 2ndin the 3000m

-Pascale Ouellette (ESA) won the senior girls triple Jump and finished 2ndin the long jump

-Samantha McDonald (MVHS) won the senior girls High jump and long jump

-Lynette Manuel (OHS) won the senior girls 3000m and also finished 2ndin the 1500m

-Morgan Hawkes (FHS)won the senior  girls 1500m while finishing 2ndin the 800m.

-Sarah Myatt (FHS) was the first senior girl to cross the finish line in the 800m and also finished 2ndin the 400m

-Nick McMackin (SJHS) was a triple winner in the junior division winning the 400m, 800m and 1500m.

-Alex Guest (CNHS)won the junior boys 100m and 200m.

-Alex Stuart (RHS) 1stin the senior boys 100m and 200m , also finished 2ndin the 400m Hurdles

- Chris Robertson(BMHS) won the senior boys High jump and the discus.

-Matt McNeil won the and 3000m in the senior boys division while also finishing 3rdin the 800m to finish a busy day.

-Pascal Desjardin (ESN) won the junior boys long jump and also finished 2ndin the 100m.

Other Saint John Track Notables: Erin Kelly was 2nd in the 200 and 3rd in the 400. Hailey Guzik was 2nd in the High Jump. Grace Annear was 1st in the 400 and 3rd in the 800. Liam Kettlewell was 1st in the 400 Hurdles. Alex Peabody was 2nd in the 100. Mathieu Doucet was 2nd in the 400 and 1st in the 400 Hurdles. Tom Butler was 1st in the 800. Mitch Quigg won the shot put!!

Don't forget this Thursday's Hersheys for the 9-14 year olds. We also have open events in the 1600, 800, 200 and 100!!

Jun 7 2010 - Catch the Bug Volunteers

On Sunday, I am looking for water table volunteers. We meet at 9:30 at the water fountain at the Market Square Atrium. The commitment is very short (10:45 max) and you'll get to see Coach Coffin go for another flyer:) The race gives at least $1000 to the club in return!! Just message me if you think you can help out.

Please note that open age group races will be available in the 1600m, 800m, 200m and 100m.

Athletes can enter up to 3 events but must be either 2 field & 1 track or 2 track and 1 field.
