Oct 30 2010 - SJ Track Club has 4 Atlantic Cross Country Champions Saint Johnarea athletes competed in the Atlantic Cross Country Championships this past weekend in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Held in conjunction with the Atlantic University Sports Cross Country Championships, it was one of the largest Atlantics in many years. Club members showed outstanding strength with Josh Shanks, Katie Robinson, Matt McNeill and Grace Annear from the Saint John Track Club all winning their races to become Atlantic Champions. SJTC athletes also combined with other NB athletes are part of Team NB, winning most of the team challenges.
Matt won the Juvenile category finishing 12 seconds ahead of the next finisher, Lee Wesselius. Grace won the Junior Category for women. Matt, Grace and Lee will be representing New Brunswick at the National Junior Cross Country Championships in late November in Guelph, Ontario. Matt and Lee were also part of a New Brunswick team that finished first in the Juvenile Category. Josh and Katie finished first for boys and girls in the Midget Category while Hannah Arsenault finished 11th in the Midget Girls. Katie and Hannah were part of a New Brunswick team that finished first on the Midget Category. Emilee Hoellwarth finished 6th in Peewee girls while Isabelle Nickerson and Charly Bonga finished 5th and 6th in the Bantam Girls. Emilee was part of a New Brunswick team that finished first in the Peewee Category. Brady Graves finished 6th and Cameron Dick finished 10th in the Bantam Boys. Brady and Cameron were part of a New Brunswick team that finished first in the Bantam Category. Alex Coffin finished 3rd in the Senior Race. Oct 23 2010 - NB Middle Schools Cross Country Championship The 5th annual NB Middle School XC Championships were held at River Valley Middle School on Saturday, October 23, 2010. Almost 140 athletes representing schools from across New Brunswick competed in the races for girls and boys in grades 6, 7 and 8. Runners ran for individual and team honors in each grade division and Over All Provincial Championships were awarded to the schools with the top 6 placings in boys and girls. George St. Middle School of Fredericton dominated the meet with their teams winning 3 of the 6 grade level events on their way to capturing both the Boys & Girls Overall Championships. Congratulations to our local schools who did very well... River valley Middle School came 2nd in the boys and 3rd in the girls overall. Samuel de Champlain was 3rd in the boys over all. Barnhill came 4th in the girls and 5th in the boys. SJTC athletes performed well with the following top 6 finishes... Senior Boys 2nd - Matt McNeil, 10th - Andrew Vail, 17th - Tom Butler, 52nd - Mark Guzik Oct 16 2010 - Club Awards 2010 The club presented its annual Walter Ellis Awards to the top athletes in the club at a dinner last night held along with the KV Challenge Marathon. For 2010 the club also recognized some outstanding road runners including Frank Kelly with a Sport 4 Life award in recognition of his running acheivements. Truly a role model Frank has completed 27 road races so far in 2010. The awards are names in honor of Walter Ellis, founder and long time coach of the Saint John Track Club. This years award winners are. Top Six Individual and Team Results Oct 13 2010 - Britt receives WAC honors
Britt, a sophomore from Hampton, N.B. (Georgia State), finished seventh at the Charles Bowles Invitational with a time of 24:00.48 on the 8000m course, which is a team record and is the fastest by a WAC runner this season over that distance. Britt helped the Idaho men finish fourth out of 23 teams, including regionally-ranked opponents, Lipscomb and UC Riverside. It was Britt's second-consecutive race with a team-record and WAC-leading time. The weekly honors are the first for the Idaho cross country teams this season and the first career honors for the two runners. Britt, Veseth and the rest of the Idaho men's and women's cross country teams will be in action next weekend, Oct. 16, at the Dellinger Invitational, hosted by University of Oregon. DENVER - The Western Athletic Conference announced on Tuesday that Idaho cross country athletes Barry Britt and Julia Veseth swept the Verizon Wireless Men's and Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 29 - Oct. 5.
